The Jakarta Muhammadiyah University Student Executive Board (BEM  ) visited the  as part of a friendly relationship, in the South Jakarta area, Friday (11/08/2023). The BEM UMJ staff were welcomed by the Chairman of the Indonesian Ombudsman Mokhammad Najih, SH, M.Hum., Ph.D.

BEM UMJ then conducted a dialogue with the chairman of the Ombudsman RI. The Ombudsman RI as an independent institution is expected to be able to become a bridge for the community by administering public services. On this occasion, Student President Sarlin Wagola conveyed two important points as input.

"First, we hope that the Indonesian Ombudsman will be optimal in supervising the implementation of public services in the regions. Regional communities, especially remote areas, still find it difficult to obtain administrative services. Second, it is important to immediately speed up the revision of Ombudsman Law no. 37 of 2008 by the Indonesian Parliament," said Sarlin.

Apart from that, Sarlin representing BEM UMJ hopes that there will be student involvement in the process of revising the law. Student involvement is a form of building collaboration which can be done through dialogue and discussion.

The Chairman of the Indonesian Ombudsman, Mokhammad Najih, SH, M.Hum., Ph.D. responded positively to this input. According to him, supervising state administration in public services is a mandate of the law.

As a state institution that was born from a demand for reform, this is a consequence of becoming a democratic country to strengthen wider and maximum public participation.

Najih further explained, "We continue to communicate with the DPR RI so that we can immediately discuss it, considering the Indonesian Ombudsman Law No. 37 of 2008 has been included in the 2022/2023 Priority Prolegnas as an initiative by the DPR RI but has not yet been discussed," he said.

Najih emphasized the importance of revising the Indonesian Ombudsman Law, including related to duties and authorities, timeframe for responding to reports, closing reports, reports on inspection results, the Indonesian Ombudsman code of ethics and involving community participation.
